The Samsung PN58B540 is a higher-mid-range plasma HDTV with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. It has nearly identical features to the smaller-screen PN50B540. Its display resolution is 1920 x 1080 and has a 2 000 000:1 contrast ratio.

It has Samsung's e-panel bright room glare-reduction feature, and it also has a game mode that speeds up image processing to increase game image quality. It is also about 40% more efficient than the models from the year before, and Energy Star compliant. The remote can also act as a universal remote to control numerous A/V devices, as long as they are also Samsung brand and HDMI compliant. It has numerous video inputs, and a dual-tuner for digital ATSC and standard NTSC signals. The only significant change in specifications from the 50" model aside from screen size is that the stereo speakers have a 15W output, as opposed to 10W. The larger display gives the PN58B540 a substantially higher price point as well
